HOW WILL YOU PAY?

HAVE YOU STOPPED TO THINK WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF YOU NEEDED LONG TERM CARE?
And not just for your "Sunset Years"….Long Term Care may be needed AT ANY AGE for your son's Skiing accident, that catastrophic car collision, a stroke with paralysis, a natural disaster where serious, debilitating injury occurs.
In these perilous times, everyone realizes that we are much more vulnerable than ever.

WHO WILL HELP YOU?

FORGET MEDICARE
Many people mistakenly believe that Medicare will cover the cost of
long term care. The reality is that Medicare only covers nursing home
costs for a very short period following a hospital stay to recuperate
from an acute illness or injury. Rarely if EVER, will even an average
stay be covered.

NO SAFETY NET
Neither Medicare, nor supplemental Medigap insurance, which you buy separately to pay the difference between Medicare reimbursements and actual costs, covers Long Term Care. A nursing home stay costs $50,000 a year on average, but can go to more than $100,000 a year in expensive areas.

TO SUM UP…
Medicare will NOT cover you if you need the kind of extended, intermediate, or custodial care associated with long term nursing home stays or if you need prolonged home health care on a daily basis.

BEWARE MEDICAID
THE REAL TRUTH
Some of us THINK that we know all about Medicaid….'you know - it's that govt. program where if you have used up all your money, you can stay in a care facility for nothing.' Many people might even think that they can sign their money over to their children or other relatives, so that it appears that they have no money. LOTS of people are NOT aware that the Federal govt. now has an audit program in operation which is designed to go back into financial records for 5 years to see if someone has done just that.

MEDICAID….

A government welfare program, WILL pay for your care, but only after you have completely and truly impoverished yourself.
Nursing homes and care facilities are becoming harder and harder to find. The wait for beds can be lengthy. The money they receive is smaller and smaller - making the kind of assistance they offer subject to allegations of poor quality of care.

RELYING ON FAMILY

"Caring for an Aging parent while trying to keep up with career and family is emotionally stressful and difficult to afford. ' Even if you love someone, you can find yourself resenting them', says Margaret L. Stubbs, 53 a developmental psychologist in Pittsburgh.
Stubbs, who nursed her 80 year old mother through end stage kidney cancer, says providing 24 hour care in her home was beyond anything she had expected. "I felt completely overwhelmed, especially in the last 3 weeks before she died," she says." Stubbs is not alone. Today, more and more adult children are finding that providing care for an elderly parent.. takes a heavy toll emotionally, physically and financially.

"Gary Smith's daily ritual is numbing. His mother, Florida, can't talk or walk by herself. Gary bathes her, shaves her legs and moves her around the house. "If you had told me five years ago I'd be doing all this stuff, I'd have said, 'I'm out of here.' But one thing grabs on to another and I'm doing it all.

LONG TERM CARE INSURANCE

We have been clients of Hometown Insurors, Inc. for over 10 years. We are now 89 and 81 years old and have resided at Lakepoint Woods Living Facility in Sarasota for the past year

and a half, since July of 1998. Tony experienced his first stroke a little over two years ago and has progressively lost this mobility ever since. After receiving assistance in our home for a few months from a home health care agency, which our long term care insurance paid for, it became apparent we would need 24 hour assistance which prompted our decision to sell our condo and move into Lakepoint. We are living in a beautiful facility with a lovely apartment containing all of our most cherished possessions. Help is just down the hall 24 hours per day. The aides assist Tony in performing his daily activities such as bathing and dressing. This has proven to be the relief necessary to continue on. Our monthly charges are $3800 per month, of which we are reimbursed $3800 per month from our Long Term Care policy.
Barbara continues to check up on us. We know how much she cares. Obtaining Long Term Care insurance is important, but the local help of our agent and friend has been especially valuable to us. We would strongly recommend Barbara and her staff at Hometown as professionals in the area of long term care insurance.
Sincerely,

Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Kromer
